Impacting Women’s Lives Through Access to Care
Mission Moment
This is about a 43-year-old undocumented lady of Hispanic ethnicity. We met while doing outreach at Key Food Supermarket in Lake Worth. She was very hesitant to speak to me but was able to get her to feel more comfortable with me, and have her listen to details regarding our organization, and what we do in the community. She confessed she hadn't been able to get a pap smear or mammogram done in almost 10 years as she had not medical insurance or medical home. While screening her, she also confessed she was undocumented, and I stated we were still able to help her get her screenings done at FoundCare. She was so happy to hear this. She was able to get her pap smear, and mammogram done at FoundCare and states she was so happy that she connected with me that day at Key Food Supermarket. She was afraid that she would never be able to see a doctor again since leaving her country due to her undocumented status here in the United States but that thanks to Promise Fund she was able to see a doctor and feel relief that everything came back normal.
